Topamax Victims Could Opt To Seek Compensation Via A Birth Defects Lawsuit
A birth defects lawsuit could be an option for mothers, who took the anticonvulsant Topamax in the last 15 years and gave birth to infants with birth defects, to seek compensation. Topamax, manufactured by Ortho-McNeil, a Johnson & Johnson subsidiary, was first marketed in 1996 after it got the stamp of approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for epilepsy treatment. However, the drug’s side effects have only been scrutinized recently after studies linked it to birth defects. Leading to brain damage or worse, death is the Topamax side effect is Hyperammonemia.
