Background Search Helps You Find Out A Lot About Future Employees
Background searches are done for many reasons, some of those may be personal but the majority of them are business or military related. Due to the nature of certain jobs, employers may not be satisfied with just reference checks and may need to do a background search.
A background check may be required if you are going to take a position with a bank or other job that includes a responsibility with money and financial information. It is also common to have a background check required for any civil service job. If you are applying for a position with a municipality such as a city or county then they may require a background search.
Security positions typically will require a search as well. This is particularly true if you are going to be working in a high-risk area such as one that has access to sensitive information or valuables. A background search is mandatory if you are going to become a police officer or work within a jail.
When joining the military it is not necessary to have a security clearance, but there are many jobs in the military that do require clearances. There are different levels of security clearances and each level requires a more intensive background check. Many positions in the military require a Top-secret clearance.
There are different levels of security clearances, these levels are referred to as caveats and are sub-clearances. What caveat a person receives will be based on the material they will be dealing with. A type of security clearance is known as a TS/SCI or top secret Special compartmented information clearance. This type of clearance requires a very in-depth background search.
While these reasons listed are great examples of why someone might need to do a background check they are far from the only reasons. There are numerous reasons why an individual may want to run a background search for personal reasons. One popular reason for this is the case of a couple hiring a nanny to take care of their children fulltime.
It is also common to run a search before renting out an apartment to someone. In the case of rental property you are depending on someone you don’t know to handle your property with respect and to pay you for the rent regularly. If they damage the property or fail to pay the rent then you will need to take money out of your pocket to cover the expenses of the property or pay for damages. These are some good reasons to want to know whom exactly you are renting to. After all a background search is an investigation into who a person is and how responsible they are.
You may also want to run a public background search on an individual if you are going to allow them to roommate with you. Since you will be sharing a financial responsibility with this person it may be a good idea to do search on them. It may also be a good idea to run a backgrounds search on the person you are dating if you are considering getting serious with them. This may seem tacky or a lack of trust, it can be a good idea if you are going to live with this person and trust them to your personal belongings and your life.
