A Project on Bankruptcy
I have never been more confused before. My Language Arts teacher gave us the strangest assignment today. We have to do this whole project on bankruptcy, including interviewing people who are going through it or have gone through it, looking up data about it, and writing a long essay about it. We have to include graphs about the percentages of people who have filed for bankruptcy in the last ten years, and compare the number from ten years ago to the number of today. Now if this were current events class, or social studies, or economics I would understand. But this is English class! What is the connection between the hardships of the world today to the books we read in school? I questioned the teacher about it but he said to just do the assignment and stop being so particular. I don’t think I was being particular, I think I was being a good student. I was asking to find out why, so I would understand and maybe be able to write the essay with a new perspective. At first I was upset at him, and I went home all mad, but now I am just confused. I’m sitting at the computer screen trying to find a connection, but I’m drawing a blank. It just doesn’t make sense to me! It’s getting late though. I better start now and just do it the best I can. Maybe if I fail, I’ll be able to do a new assignment that actually makes sense!
