“…so now that we are through with the investigation, Ms. Hopkins, do you have any bankruptcy questions?” said the officer. I went crazy. A robber just broke into my house, stole $30,000 worth of jewelry, and now this policeman is telling me to file for bankruptcy! I could not believe it. I told this man straight away that I would like to speak to his boss, and I don’t want to hear another word coming from his filthy mouth. I should not be the one to lose all of my money. My jewelry was insured, after all. When I tried explaining that to the second officer, all he did was cackle in my face. He was mocking me! When he saw the shocked and disgusted look on my face he realized that I was not kidding and his sarcastic humor quickly died away. His face took on a different expression, and whether it was of concern or amusement I could not tell. When he asked me if everything was all right I saw sincerity in his eyes and could not help but to calm down a little. So I explained to him my argument with the first officer. This compassionate man took hold of my hands, looked straight into my eyes and told me that the first officer had made a mistake. He meant to ask “so now that we are through with the investigation, Ms. Hopkins, do you have any further questions?” Now I was the one laughing.

I like to call myself GT, the initials of Green Thumb. That is what I have and what I am. Instead of getting a real career I planted a garden. I depend on my garden for my livelihood, because after I sell my fruits and vegetables I have just the right amount of money to pay my bills. But something terrible just happened this past spring. We got a cold front and all of my fruits and vegetables froze! Now I am worried about the answers for my bankruptcy questions. I don’t know anything about being bankrupt and I never wanted to. How will the people receive good crop now? Who will feed the animals? I have Spotty the dog, Ginger the cat, Carol and Carlie and Carden the birds, and Humphrey the rabbit. They are like my own children, everyone and everything around me are like my own children. And I let them down. I cannot ever make another garden. This was my unique garden, one that can never be replaced. It was magical. So my plan now is to place a glass container over my garden so that all those who stroll by will look and point. I will now travel around the country and help others tend to their gardens, for after I declare bankruptcy I will lead a new life.

Many people today have been forced into a bankruptcy situation because of overwhelming medical bills. There are stories all over the airways, in the papers and in books about very heartbreaking stories about people not being able to pay their bills because of medical conditions that insurance could not or would not cover. Some people just never had insurance. Forty million people in this country, when last I heard, were not covered for medical insurance of any kind. And from many others who are covered, their coverage just about covers a band aid. Doctors are making out like bandits throughout all of the problems with the medical system although listening to doctors and their wives you would think that they were suffering and getting the short end of the stick. Meanwhile, while doctors are guaranteed payment, patients and people in dire need of medical services are not guaranteed those services. It is hard to believe that in the United States, the richest country in the world, that national health care is not available. That people are forced to consider bankruptcy because of not being able to pay for their medical conditions is a crime. Bankruptcy inquiries and answers for these people are readily available on the internet.

2008 goes down in history as the year Barbie’s lawyers took Bratz on in court and won

A California court ruled that the creator of Bratz dolls, Carter Bryant, came up with the idea while he was working for Mattel.

This was in line with Mattel’s argument that both the name and design of Bratz dolls was based on drawings done by Carter Bryant while he was under a contract that entitled the world’s biggest toymaker to his designs.

MGA argued that while Mr Bryant had worked for Mattel between 1995 and April 1998 and then again from January 1999 to September 2000, the idea had come to him in the gap between his two stints.

I guess 2008 shall go down as the year that Mattel’s Barbie shall no longer be undercut by those Bratty Bratz

Though Bratz dolls fared poorly at their June 2001 debut, they skyrocketed to superstardom the following Christmas. In their first five years, a hundred and twenty-five million were sold worldwide, and, in 2005, global sales of Bratz and Bratz products reached two billion dollars.
